Kalyani M. Kumar, MD

After 28 years of private practice in Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Kumar relocated to Tennessee to join Highlands Women's Healthcare (formerly White County Women's Healthcare) in Sparta in May of 2009. Among her many accomplishments, she was nominated for the U.S. Surgeon General position in October of 2006 and interviewed at the White House in 2006 and 2007.

She has been recognized annually since 2004 by the Research Council of America as one of America's Top OB/GYN physicians. She served on the Physician Advisory Board for the National Congressional Committee from 2004 through 2007. She was awarded the "Pioneer in Health Care Reform" by the National Congressional Committee in 2004.

Dr. Kumar is board certified and a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), the Tennessee Medical Association, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Kumar received her degree from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India. She completed rotating internships at Osmania General Hospital and Government Maternity Hospital and an internship and residency at St. Vincent's Medical Center of Richmond County, Staten Island, N.Y.

Dr. Kumar has medical staff privileges at Highlands Medical Center, DeKalb Community Hospital and Stones River Hospital.
