Homer E. "Trey" Kirby, D.O., has been practicing medicine in the McMinnville community for a number of years. Before opening Kirby Family Medicine in 2014, Dr. Kirby served as Medical Director at the local VA Clinic in McMinnville from November 2012 through December 2013. Prior to joining the staff of the VA Clinic, Dr. Kirby had been in private practice with Dr. Bryan Chastain for seven years.

Dr. Kirby completed medical school at Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Martin Army Community Hospital.

He has achieved board certification by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Tennessee Osteopathic Association and Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Kirby has received numerous honors. In 2012, he was named a "Healthcare Hero" by the Tennessee Hospital Association. He was nominated by River Park for his heroic service as a primary care physician as well as for his 14 years as an active member of the U.S. military. Dr. Kirby served a three-month deployment to Afghanistan in 2012 with the Med Dogs unit. He was stationed at a 40-bed mobile emergency room 75 miles from the Iranian border. In 2002, as a major in the Army, Dr. Kirby was a battalion surgeon on the front lines with the American troops who rolled through Baghdad and stormed the palace of Saddam Hussein.

He described the battlefield experience of being on the front lines as intense. "I should have been killed four times, but I wasn't," he said. His job on the battlefield was to keep wounded soldiers from dying, whatever that entailed. "It was 24 hours a day of adrenaline," he said. ‘You didn't know from one moment to the next if it was going to be your last moment or not, literally."

In 2013 he was voted Warren County's "Best of the Best" doctor by readers of McMinnville's local newspaper, Southern Standard.

Dr. Kirby also gives his time to serve in leadership roles. He has served as a member of the Physician Leadership Group at River Park Hospital and as medical director for a local nursing home.
